PETER LOEWEN Peter Loewen, peacefully in St. Catharines General Hospital, St. Catharines, Ontario. Peter passed away May 1, 2010 at the age of 86. Peter grew up in Silberfeld, Manitoba and lived his adult life in Gretna and Winnipeg. Peter was a school teacher, served in the RCAF, and most of his working career was with Customs and Excise. Peter also served as the mayor of Gretna for many years. He enjoyed being active and volunteered in many capacities from his work with the Altona Hospital Board to his work at Bethel Place. Peter is lovingly remembered by his three children, Joanne Dahlke (Lothar), Gail Burton (Don), and Cameron; his two grandchildren (Nathan and Carmen), and his two great-grandsons (Jaiden and Brandon); his sisters Tina Letkeman (Jake), Gertrude Heinrichs (Jake), Helen Thorpe (Ralph). He is predeceased by his four brothers and one sister. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 12 at 10:30 a.m. in the Bethel Mennonite Church in Winnipeg. In memory of Peter donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).
