JENNIFER CATHERINE MOYES (nee SLADEK) August 29, 1934 - May 1, 2010 It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Jennifer on Saturday, May 1, 2010 after a heroic battle with ALS. Jennifer was born to immigrant parents, Gasper and Helen Sladek, the youngest of seven siblings - Stephanie Karaz (Tony), George (Maudie), Gaye, Julie, Mary Carvell, and Beth Litton (Jack). She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Dr. Andrew Moyes; brother, George; and nephew, Sherman Litton. Graduating from the University of Manitoba with a Master of Social Work degree, Jennifer won the School of Social Work book prize for highest academic standing. Following graduation, she was employed as Director of Social Work at the Brandon Mental Health Centre and Seven Oaks General Hospital. In 1993, she was honoured as Social Worker of the Year by the Canadian Association of Social Work. Upon retirement, Jennifer continued to use her social work skills as a volunteer to senior citizen shut-ins where her smile and home-baked cookies were undoubtedly appreciated. She will always be remembered by her family and friends for her enthusiasm, sense of humour, willingness to help those in need, and organizational skills. On Thursday, May 6, 2010, Jennifer's Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in St. Andrews Anglican Church, 2700 Portage Avenue with Rev. Ian J. E. Mills, presider. The family wishes to thank everyone for their love and support and a special thank you to the very caring staff of Comforts of Home Care; Palliative Care; Manitoba Home Care; the ALS Clinic and the ALS Society. Without their dedicated care, Jennifer could not have remained in the comforts of her own home. Should friends desire, donations in memory of Jennifer may be made to the ALS Society of Manitoba, 493 Madison Street, Winnipeg, MB R3J 1J2, or to a charity of one's choice. SAFE IN THE SHELTER OF GOD'S LOVE

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I first learned of the passing of Jennifer Moyes today on your condolences web site. I had the pleasure and privilege of working under the guidance and supervision of Jennifer Moyes from 1982 to 1985 at BMHC in Brandon Manitoba. Together we helped to establish the legacy of Community Welcome Cooperative in Brandon. Under her supervision we also helped to empower many patients to achieve well being and signicant progress in their lives. Thank you Jennifer and Andy Moyes for the many achievements we made together.
