Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIVAN EARL (CHUCK) STEWART May 29, 1920 - May 1, 2010 Peacefully in his sleep at Hillside Beach while visiting family, Ivan slipped away on Saturday, May 1, 2010. He would have turned 90 later this month. Ivan was born and raised in Carman, Manitoba the youngest of nine children, to David and Margaret Stewart. He served in the Second World War as a wireless operator in the R.C.A.F. Squadron 431 Bomber Command. His close friend, Alan Rodgers, introduced Ivan to his sister, Mavis. Ivan and Mavis were married on November 19, 1949. They raised their young family in Pilot Mound, Manitoba where Ivan had a painting business. After moving to Winnipeg, Ivan worked at Westinghouse until his retirement in 1982. He loved his music and played piano with The Royal Canadians at dances throughout southern Manitoba. He also entertained with his keyboard for several years at various venues in and around Winnipeg. Ivan had a passion for flowers and constantly leafed through his seed catalogues planning his garden beds and flower pots each spring. He loved watching the Toronto Blue Jays games, enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, cribbage, dice, Scrabble and snooker. We called our dad Saint Ivan as he was the most generous and kind human being who never said a bad thing about anyone. There is a very special place in Heaven just for him. Ivan was predeceased by his parents and siblings. He will be missed by his wife of 60 years, Mavis; children, Merrill (Keith) Brook, Shelley (Dale) Marcus, Kevin (Patty Young), Sandy (Bryce) Manske; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Hazel Anderson, Lillian Rodgers and Ollie Stewart, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Special thanks to the North Eastman EMS, Victoria Beach 1st Responders, the Powerview R.C.M.P. detachment and Chapel Lawn for their timely and compassionate response. At Ivan's request, there will not be a service. A family gathering will be held at Chapel Lawn in Winnipeg. We ask that you remember him in your hearts and prayers. Memorial donations in Ivan's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, Unit 10 - 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200 - 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
