Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERTHA ESTELLA MORTON (nee BIRD) Peacefully on Saturday, May 1, 2010, Bertha Morton passed away at Concordia Place at the age of 92 years. She was born on February 11, 1918 in Melita, Manitoba, the eldest of three children. In 1941 she moved to Winnipeg with her parents and youngest brother. She subsequently worked for L. Wallis Florist and Broadway Florists. In 1954 she married Arnold Albert Morton. They had one daughter. They enjoyed 48 years of marriage, until Arnold's death in March 2003. Bertha's hobbies included sewing and gardening. She was a talented seamstress. She especially enjoyed camping trips with her family, as well as the Hawaiian vacation that she took with Arnold after his retirement. Bertha will be sadly missed by her daughter Marilyn (Brian) of Winnipeg; sister-in-law, Marion Bird of East Lansing, MI, brother-in-law Carman Morton of Victoria, BC and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her father Albert Bird in 1982, her mother Margueretta Estella Bird in 1990, her brother Norman of East Lansing, MI in 1986, and her brother Lawrence of Brandon in 2005. The family extends a heartfelt thank-you to the staff of Concordia Place, where Bertha lived since July 2005. Also, thanks to the staff at her previous homes, Kildonan House and Beacon Hill Lodge. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with David Jury, Kevin Cowan and Vera Morrow officiating.
