DOROTHY DEVRIES Peacefully on May 2, 2010 at River East Personal Care Home, Dorothy passed away with her daughter, Judy by her side. Dorothy was born on May 1, 1928 in Perth, Australia. Mom was predeceased by her loving husband of 38 years, Adrianus. Left to grieve are her family: son Jan (Valdene) grandchildren Andrea (Tom) and Aaron (Vlora), daughter Judith de Vries-Porteous (Ken) grandson Derek Lutz (Kari) and special granddaughter Heather Buchanan-Jackson along with Christian and Noah, and foster daughter, Judy-Ann Brown of Calgary. Left to mourn mom is her dear friend Mrs. Mary Wray, along with Joan Porteous, Jamie Porteous, numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends in Australia, Holland and Canada. Dorothy spent her early years in Australia and married Adrianus in April, 1947. In 1948 she moved to The Netherlands, where her two children were born. In 1954, Dorothy and her family moved to Canada, settling in Winnipeg. Dorothy loved her life in Canada. She worked for the former Children's Home of Winnipeg, was a Cub Leader, and was a foster parent. She was an excellent seamstress, knitter, and cross-stitcher. Her handwork is enjoyed by many. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. A Celebration of Dorothy's life will be held Friday, May 7, 2010, 2:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army, Winnipeg East Community Church, 401 Henderson Highway.
