ALBERT EDWARD HARGREAVES CD (FEARLESS) September 19, 1920 - May 3, 2010 Peacefully on May 3, 2010 Bert passed away at the Gimli Community Health Centre with his wife and family at his side. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Lorraine and children Brian (Barb), Bert, Fraser (Teena), Jill (Glenn), Jay (David), Melanie. His grandchildren Sara, AJ, Nicholas, Sean, Terry, Thomas, Brittany, Stephanie (Travis), Amanda, Derek, Dylan, Alicia, Matthew, Ashley (Dexter), Michael, great- grandchild Ty, honourary grandchild Riley Kilpatrick, wartime brother Robert Norton (Evie), many friends, nieces, nephews and those who knew him as Uncle Bert or Grandpa Bert . Survived by his brother Les and sister Marjorie. Dad served with the 17th Field Regiment RCA from 1939 to 1945 throughout England, North Africa, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and with the army reserves until 1966 where he retired with the rank of Warrant Officer Second Class (WO11). These were proud years where Dad made many lifelong friends. The 17th was a spit and polish family oriented unit that remained in touch throughout the years. Dad's proudest accomplishments were his family, his military service and his 22 years at the Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital where he was a founding member of the Teulon and District Ambulance service. Dad and Mom also ran a number of businesses throughout the Interlake and Dad continued to work at Lakeside Camp and Aspen Park in Gimli even after his retirement. Hard work and dedication were a way of life for Dad, a quality he instilled in his children, grand-children and all those around him. He loved family gatherings where he played with his grandchildren and was able to take center stage. Throughout his life Dad meant many different things to all that knew him. The one common element that brought us all together was his strong story telling. Dad had a way of drawing you into his stories and jokes, making you feel it was about you or that you were there. His laughter will remain with us forever. Dad had a kind and generous soul and was always there when you needed him, willing to lend a hand and help someone in need. As his grandson Michael said, Don't be sad he's gone, be happy he was here. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life with family and friends is planned at the Teulon Hall on Friday, May 14, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The family wishes to thank Dr. Aljafari, Dr. Gera, Dr. Benshaban, the nursing staff and Palliative Care staff at Gimli Hospital for their compassionate care. We would also like to thank Betel Home staff and all of Dad's LGB Girls. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital Foundation. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Teulon in care of arrangements.
