VAHAN HAGOB MELIKIAN It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our father, grandfather and brother, Vahan Hagob Melikian, who passed away suddenly at St. Boniface Hospital on May 4, 2010 at age 90. He will be mourned and missed by his daughters, Anahid (Michael) Helewa, Arda (Douglas) Thomson, Lucy (Richard) Bernhardt, Dorothy, his sister Anahid, and his grandchildren, Ramzi, Wisam, Ella, Leah and Rachel. He was predeceased by his wife Nimeh in 1980 and brother Levon in 2007. Vahan was born in Jerusalem on October 23, 1919. He grew up there and went to school at St. George's School for boys. He later went into business with his father and then on his own, until he immigrated to Canada with his daughters in 1986. He settled down in and loved his adopted country. His hobby was his big stamp collection. Until three years ago he volunteered his time at the Kidney Foundation where, for about 18 years, he was a faithful helper and made many friends. He was an avid reader, and always kept abreast with world events and the business world. He will always be remembered for his cheerfulness, his knowledge, his helpfulness, his generosity and wise outlook on life. He will be greatly missed, and will always be in our hearts and minds. We thank Dr. A. Shah and the staff of the Emergency Room at St. Boniface General Hospital and the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service for their efforts and professionalism. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 7, 2010 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 930 Winakwa Road (Windsor Park) with interment to follow in Transcona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Manitoba Branch, 1 - 452 Dovercourt Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3Y 1G4. 843 Sherbrook Street, 774-7474 Condolences: www.bardal.ca

  • I came by this ad. Today , and it brought to me old sweet memories and sadness at the same time. I knew Mr Melikian since I was a kid, where I used to visit his shop in Dabbagha quarter in Jerusalem, to buy stamps .I remember him very well as a quiet polite gentleman who would help me with my hobby . I remember he was living in Rammalah where I Last met him , it was back in 1986 and I remember he sold me some of his Jordan stamps at the time. My sincere condolences for his daughters and family. - Posted by: Jamal F Dajani (Friend) on: May 05, 2020
