DENIS MELNYK With great sorrow, we announce that Denis (Dionysi) Melnyk, of Winnipeg, died at Grace Hospital on May 5, 2010 at the age of 93. He was born on August 12, 1916, in Kolomiya, Ukraine, the son of Yurij and Halya Melnyk. Denis was predeceased by his wife Ena (d. 2006). He is survived by his sons, George and Lubomyr, and their families. Denis was a strong Ukrainian patriot and served his country in many ways. Denis married Euphrosina (Ena) Huminilovych in 1944 in Ukraine. Together, they fled from the Red Army occupation, and made their way after great difficulties to Winnipeg in 1950 where they lived for the rest of their lives. Denis worked at the Paulin-Chambers company. His friendliness and helpful character were appreciated by everyone. He was a strong advocate of good education and outdoor life, being very fond of fishing and cross-country skiing. Funeral will be held at Korban Funeral Chapel at 907 Main St. on Tuesday, May 11 at 11:00 a.m. Denis gave his family tremendous leadership and devotion. He will be greatly missed.
