RONALD ROY HALPENNY It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our devoted and beloved husband, dad and papa on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the age of 73. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jeannette, his sons Lorne (Melinda), and Andrew (Kelly), grandchildren Brenden, Addison, Nolan, and sister Marlene. He is predeceased by his grandson Ethan and parents Leslie and Rose Halpenny. Ron was born in Brandon, Manitoba on February 26, 1937. He spent his early years in Transcona, obtained his teaching degree from the University of Manitoba, went on to teach in Boissevain, Oxford House, Pond Inlet, and eventually settled in Selkirk in 1975 to continue teaching and raise his young family. Ron held a passion for sport, especially hockey and baseball. This passion continued as he passed his gift and love for sport to his two sons. Always a devoted father, countless early morning practices and games on the road followed. Ron met his loving wife and best friend while working in the records department at the C.N.R. They married in 1962 and devoted their lives to each other and their children. Aside from a deep love for his grandchildren, Ron's hobbies included caring for his husky Mitsu, genealogy, reading, the blues, and travel. His most recent travels took him throughout Europe to fulfill a lifelong dream. In the end, it was a courageous battle with cancer. As always, his family came first. Never did a complaint or negative word cross his lips. Ron devoted his life to being a caring and loving husband, dad, papa and friend. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 8 at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
