Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryH. JOHN SPRONG Silently, a loving heart stopped beating and an incredible journey of love, strength and determination peacefully ended for John (Hesterus) Sprong on Monday, May 10, 2010 while surrounded by loving family. On June 5, 1920 Dad was born in the Netherlands. He came to Canada as a toddler with his parents and two brothers. John met his wife, Blanche Bonnallo at a dance and so began a lifelong enjoyment of dancing for both of them. After their marriage on July 27, 1945, Dad held down a job as a delivery man until 1949 when he accepted the position of general manager of the Marquette Co-Op. He held this position until the end of 1959, when he then accepted a job as an office accountant for Red River Co-Op. Dad left the Co-Op in 1982 and worked part time for Versa-Tec Industries for the next 12 years. Dad and Mom raised their family, were active in the local curling and bowling communities, spent much time with friends at dances and eventually took up square dancing. Dad loved being outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing. He also became an avid golfer. Remaining to forever cherish Dad's memory are his daughters, Grace Melnyk and Janet Windatt (Roger); grandchildren, Karen (Greg), Bryan (Jenn), Curtis (Karen) and Heather (A. J.); great-grandchildren, Nathan and Gabriella and his younger brother William; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Johannes and Maria, his older brother Henry and his wife Blanche of 60 years of marriage. John's Funeral Service will be held on Friday May 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m., in the Westworth United Church, 1750 Grosvenor Avenue, with Rev. Clark Saunders, presiding. Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and doctors of 3 North at Grace General Hospital for the compassionate care during Dad's last hospital stay. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made in Dad's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice.
