FRIEDA HASSENRUECK April 19, 1916 - May 8, 2010 Peacefully on May 8, 2010, at Bethania Personal Care Home, at the age of 94, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went to her heavenly home. Frieda is survived by her children: Ted (Margarete), Elsie (Doug), Wally, Elenore (Wilmer); her grandchildren: Arlene (Brent), Elenore (James), Arthur (Courtney), Carolynn, Teryl (Frank), Nigel, Will (Lynn), Tim, Amara, Kira; her great-grandchildren: Kamen, Thomas, Dominic, Keziah, Abigail, and Rosalie. She was predeceased in 2006 by her husband, Willi, with whom she had shared 58 years of marriage, and her seven siblings. Frieda was a woman of unshakeable faith. This gave her a strength of character and spirit that allowed her to triumph over the hardships that she experienced. She was not one to dwell on self pity. Rather, her creativity, ingenuity, resourcefulness, and considerable talents helped her to look ahead, not back. She never questioned the prize that God had in store for her. Born in Drwaly, Poland during the First World War, and living through the turmoil of the Second World War, she, along with her husband, came to Canada in 1948. Starting over, they settled in Winnipeg and worked hard to create a loving and caring home for their four children. Valuing relationships over material possessions, they built a circle of family and friends. Music, entertaining, good food, laughter, visiting, church, hard work, tight budgets, sacrifice, love, but above all faith, defined the years of her life. She has left an enduring and priceless legacy for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. With the death of her husband in 2006, and her subsequent declining health, Frieda expressed her readiness to go home to be with her Lord and her loved ones. We rejoice that she is now in her eternal home. We will miss our Oma. We thank God for the blessing of her life, and for the many years that we had her with us. We rejoice in knowing that we will see her again some day in heaven. We will celebrate her life on Friday, May 14, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy., with viewing one-half hour prior to the service. Interment to follow in the Mennonite Memorial Gardens. Donations in her memory can be made to Habitat for Humanity or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to: KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson Hwy. - 338-0331 Condolences may be sent to www.klassenfuneralhome.com
