Date of Passing: May 06, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOUGLAS JAMES BLAKELY 1957 - 2010 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Douglas James Blakely in Winnipeg on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the age of 52 years. Douglas was the life partner of Carol Mowat; and leaves to celebrate his memory his son Jed, sister Joanne Blakely and brother Dean of Kitchener, ON, brothers Ken and Jim of Calgary, AB, and other relatives and friends, including Carlos Vela and Claire Falgui. Doug was the proud owner and founder of Mid-Ocean School of Media Arts which has been in operation for the past 15 years. He enjoyed teaching and especially enjoyed the fact that students were able to achieve a good education in sound recording and best practice in life. Doug valued highly the contributions of his associates in MOSMA. Doug was a humanist; his philosophy guided him in all his actions. To the best of his ability, he sought to make his work an example of the finest of human relations, of the direction he saw that human society could take if it owned up to its own existence. The studio/school he created, Mid-Ocean School of Media Arts, his heritage, stands an exemplar of his vision. Doug was a materialist; to him human consciousness was a material thing. And that was something to be celebrated; perhaps it was also something that humanity would be well advised to stop denying to itself. By only so much does our history stand apart from us. The MOSMA collective celebrates the material nature of sound. Cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. NEIL BARDAL INC. (204) 949 2200 nbardal.mb.ca
