DOUGLAS LEONARD WEBBER With his family by his side, Doug passed away peacefully on May 12, 2010 at the age of 84. Doug leaves to mourn his loving and devoted wife of 56 years Joyce, daughter Karen Skrepnek (Alan) and sons Blair and Todd (Cathie). He was the proud grandfather of Carrie, Matthew and Julia. He is survived by two brothers, Marshall (Grace) and Ed and is sorely missed by his in-laws and their families with whom he spent much quality time. Doug was born on October 8, 1925 and was raised in the Riverview area. He was big, strong and athletic, achieving much success with the St. Vital Bulldogs and Winnipeg Rowing Club. He was an excellent swimmer and diver which served him well in the Navy. He was wise and popular; always polite and respectful of everyone he met. He was well-read and enjoyed learning throughout his life. Doug was a skilled pipefitter and provided his family with running water in the most remote locations imaginable. He loved music and gardening, especially at the family cottage where he puttered and amazed others with his ability to turn used lumber into living space. Anything he built that was just temporary would usually last for at least 20 years! Doug liked to keep busy and by example, instilled a strong work ethic in those around him. He retired from the federal government in 1988 and he and Joyce enjoyed many warm wonderful winters in Arizona. He fought courageously during his last weeks to continue sharing personal messages, family stories and special memories. The family greatly appreciates the doctors and nurses at Victoria General Hospital who provided exceptional care, compassion and support. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, across from Brookside Cemetery. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
