GLENNA CATHERINE BENSON (nee MCCARTHY March 13, 1924 - May 13, 2010 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Glenna Catherine Benson on May 13, 2010 at the Deer Lodge Center. Glenna was predeceased by her husband Leslie in 1993, sisters Florence and Margaret, and her brother Jack. She will be greatly missed by her children Robert (Patricia), Donald (Lori), and Loreen (Douglas); her grandchildren Donald, Robert, Tina, Scott, Korey, Kara and Taylor and five great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her brothers Austin and Marshall, her sister Joann and her many nieces, nephews and friends. Glenna, daughter of Phillip and Anne McCarthy, was born and raised in Selkirk. She served with the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. Following the war she married Leslie Benson. They raised their three children in Rivercrest where they enjoyed many happy occasions with family and friends. Glenna taught Home Economics at the Manitoba Home for Girls until she and Leslie retired to Selkirk. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Deer Lodge Center for the compassionate care of their mother. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Selkirk. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Deer Lodge Foundation, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3J 9Z9.
