Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN GIBSON After a brief illness on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at the Grace Hospital, John Gibson passed away with his family at his side. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Doreen (George) Szor, Donna (Ken) Simm, Richard (Marylyn) Gibson, son-in-law Ed Siwicki, stepdaughter Diane (Dennis) Dreikluft, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild, and step-grandchildren. Sisters, Adeline (Gordon) Clement, Lil Martin and Doreen (Wayne) Lang, and brother Ed Gibson, plus numereous cousins, nieces and nephews. John was born December 10, 1922 on the family farm in Libau. He had lived in Tyndall until he set out east to join the navy. He then moved back to Winnipeg where he met his wife Ilona while working for Western Packers. They got married August 28, 1948 and moved to Charleswood in 1949 where he resided until his death. Dad loved to fish, for years he enjoyed fishing and hunting at their cabin at Breezy Point. In 2001 Dad found happiness and love again when he married Marion and they would join Marion's daughter Diane and her family fishing at the cabin at Otter Falls. John was predeceased by his first wife Ilona in 2000, his second wife Marion in 2004, his daughter Gerry Siwicki in 2008, his parents Paul and Anne Golebioski, stepmother Stella, sisters Mary and Joyce, brother Leonard, sister- in-law Betty Anne, brothers-in-law Nestor, Joe, Ted, Victor. John starting working for the post office in 1948 and retiring in 1979. John was a member of Charleswood Legion Branch #100 for 64 years. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses in ICU and the 4th floor of the Grace Hospital for their kindness and compassion they had shown towards John. A memorial service will be held at the Charleswood Legion, 6003 Roblin Blvd. In the Tank Room on Tuesday, May 18 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend George Davidson officiating. Honourary pallbearers are all his grand-children. Cremation has taken place, interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation.
