RODERICK (ROD) MCDONALD HORNE 1919 - 2010 Rod passed away peacefully at Golden Door Personal Care Home on May 13, 2010 at the age of 91. Rod spent his childhood growing up in Elmwood with his brothers, Gordon, Hugh and George. He liked to share memories of his youth at meetings of the Every Second Tuesday Breakfast Club. Rod was baptized at Gordon King Memorial United Church and continued to worship there all his life. Involvement in church activities was of paramount importance to him and he contributed to the life and work of the church in many capacities. His leisure time was spent at his cottage at Matlock. He loved inviting family and friends to his beloved Sleepy Neuk. A highlight was hosting family gatherings and the bigger the crowd the better. Each summer he organized the church services at Matlock Community Club. He shared his leadership skills with many community groups including Middlechurch Home, Canadian Bible Society and the Outlook Club. He took pride in exercising at the Reh-Fit Centre to maintain his health. In his retirement he enjoyed spending the month of March in Victoria, BC visiting friends many of whom he had known since childhood. He liked to share tales of his holidays in Australia when he visited Elizabeth and Perce. Rod is lovingly remembered by his childhood sweetheart, Ivy; his son David (Dianne); daughters, Elizabeth Schirmer and Jennifer Kaisaris (Dave). His grandchildren, Allan Horne (Kim), Neil Horne (Claire), Michael Kaisaris (Lindsay) and Andrea Kaisaris (Brandon), remember him with fondness. He was proud to become the great-grandfather of Kate and John Horne. He is also survived by his cousin Carole Horne and a large extended family. A celebration of his life will take place at Gordon King Memorial United Church, 127 Cobourg Ave. on Wednesday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. Elevator access is available at the side entrance.
