Date of Passing: May 14, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEONARD WALDAMIR CHORNOBY March 21, 1933 - May 14, 2010 In loving memory of our dad, pops , poppa , grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, uncle, great-uncle, friend and husband, Len Chornoby. Dad passed peacefully Friday morning, May 14, 2010 at 7:11 a.m. He went and joined his soulmate and loving wife Barbara in heaven. Mom and Dad were married for 59 strong years and after only three short weeks apart, they are now re-united and in this the family takes comfort. Dad was predeceased by his parents, as well as four of his siblings, his son Gary in 2007, his loving wife, Barbara, and most recently his great-granddaughter, Chantelle. Dad is survived by his children Jim (Edna), Lorraine (Rick), Lenny (Doreen), Brian (Marilyn), Debbie, Todd (Michelle), Gerrald (Carla), Dwayne (Leanne); daughter-in-law Suzanne; his 31 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Dad was born in Arran, SK on March 21, 1933. Through the years, Dad spent most of his life in various communities of Northern Manitoba. He worked as a regional airport manager for the Province of Manitoba and helped to establish nine northern airports. Throughout his travels in the north, he was fortunate to meet the love of his life, Barbara Bland - they married April 16, 1951. Our mom and dad made their home in Island Lake, Manitoba where they have lived for the last 39 years. Dad loved the north - it was his life. He loved fishing, camping, hunting, boating, prospecting, and most importantly driving the winter road with Mom - and anything in the great outdoors. He took great pride in his family business in Island Lake, and was always there to offer his wisdom and guidance to the boys on how things should be taken care of. Family and friends were of great importance to Dad. We were all so fortunate to have spent these last few weeks sharing stories and reminiscing - there isn't any of us who will forget Dad's laugh and his beautiful blue eyes. The family wishes to thank all of those who have sent their love and prayers throughout the last few weeks, your thoughtfulness was greatly appreciated. We would also like to acknowledge Dr. Brian Penner for his compassion and empathy, as well as all of the fantastic care given to Dad by the staff during his time on H4 at Health Sciences Centre. Your extra TLC helped us through a very difficult time and we will be forever grateful. Services for Dad are as follows: Winnipeg: A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1839 Inkster Boulevard.
