LUCILLE GERMAINE BERUBE (nee ASSELIN) Lucille passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital surrounded by her loving family on Friday, May 14, 2010 at the age of 91 years. Lucille was born on October 23, 1918 in St. Jean Baptiste, MB, daughter of Rosalie Granger and Joseph Asselin, the youngest and last survivor of a family of 15 children and their spouses. She was predeceased by her loving husband Roland (Rolly) Berube on August 5, 1992 after 51 years of marriage. She is survived by her three children: Gerry (Julia), Leo (Colette) and Diane Leveque; five grandchildren: Michele (Randy) Benoit, Ger (Jennifer) Berube, Muriel Berube (Gary Friesen), Suzanne (Luc) Simard and Vanessa (Andrew) Gunn; ten great-grandchildren: Bryce and Mackenzie Benoit, Braden and Gavin Berube, Marina and Mitchel Topnik, Joel, Brigitte and Brittany Simard, and Kingston Gunn. As a very focused and determined individual she provided unconditional love and support for her family, specifically her spouse during his 42 years of sobriety with AA as a member of Al Anon. Lucille loved baking, cycling, walking, dancing and painting. She had a good sense of humour, a strong religious faith, was an avid reader, had belonged to the St. John's First Aid Brigade and had been a volunteer librarian at the old Tache Nursing Centre and at the St. Boniface libraries. She even managed to cut a spring mattress in half to make two single beds for camping. She loved her ice cream, Saturday night spaghetti dinners and used elastic bands to secure everything. Due to being orphaned at an early age Lucille had limited formal education but life's experiences and her persistence broadened her knowledge. She loved all colours as long as they were navy blue. Ever since she gave her eldest son power of attorney her favourite expression was charge it to Gerry . Special thanks to the staff at Tache Nursing Centre who lovingly and compassionately cared for Lucille during her stay on 2 ABC. Because of her fear of being alone, we are grateful that Lucille shared a room with Mrs. Aurore Collette for the past two years. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Froese and the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for the excellent care from Emergency to her stay on 4th Floor Unit 4. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tache Nursing Centre, 185 Despins St., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2B3 or a charity of your choice. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 21 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Boniface Cathedrale, 190 de la Cathedrale Avenue, with visitation one-half hour prior to the service.
