Date of Passing: May 19, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH ROY PEDRICK April 5, 1927 - May 19, 2010 After a long and courageous battle, Roy leaves his loving family including wife Gladys, children Linda (John Wells), Dean (Leslie), Kerry (Lynn), Tim (Sandy), Lianne (Phil Rizzuto), grandchildren Stephanie (Dave Shumsky), Joey (Kelly), Blake, Christina, Scott, Greg, Benjamin Rizzuto, Kyle, Samantha Rizzuto, Ryan, Craig and Nathan, and great-grandson Owen. Roy was predeceased by his father Harold, mother Clara and brother Jack, and is survived by his brother Leonard. Roy grew up in Transcona and attended Central School until Grade 11. He was a proud Air Cadet in his youth, and on his 17th birthday in 1944, enlisted in the Army and served a brief time until the war ended. He married Gladys Anderson in 1948. They settled their family in St. Vital - the Pedricks on Frederick - where Roy was an active and contributing member of the local Y.M.C.A., Norberry Community Club, St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church, St. Vital Arena and the St. Boniface Saints Hockey Club. His love of sport led him to years of teaching hockey skills and power skating through the City of Winnipeg, as well as hockey coaching clinics throughout Canada. Roy's career ranged from printing to advertising to sales with Monarch Life, and he wore his lion ring proudly until his last day. In his later years, he joined St. Philip's Anglican Church in Norwood and served on the vestry and as caretaker until his health would no longer comply. He loved his yard, his garden, a good argument, and an occasional bottle of Fort Garry Dark Ale. Roy had a passion for oil painting that he developed when recovering from Polio in the 1950s. Over the years, he created an extensive collection and generously gifted much of his work to family and friends who will long treasure his artistic talents. Sadly, the man we knew and loved left us long before his illness ran its course. Roy's final months in hospital were difficult and challenging. When he could, he expressed gratitude to his family for their comfort and support. While he was never a man of wealth, he was a man of great faith and believed that his life was truly and richly blessed - especially with the love of family and friends. Our family would like to thank Dad's dedicated friends who visited with him often during his lengthy hospital stay. We also extend heartfelt gratitude to the team of nurses and health care professionals at the Victoria General Hospital, especially Third Floor South. Their tremendous compassion, caring and patience throughout Dad's stay proved them nothing short of angels on earth . Special thanks to Dr. A. Pacin for his devoted care and compassion for Dad and our entire family. A Memorial Service celebrating Roy Pedrick's life will be held at St. Philip's Anglican Church, 240 Tache Ave. on Tuesday, May 25 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those who so desire to make a donation in Roy's memory to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Highway, Winnipeg, MB R3T 2E8 or a charity of your choice.
