ALBERT EDWARD POVEY With his beloved family by his side, our dear Dad, Albert Edward Povey, passed away the morning of Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the age of 94 years at the Extendicare Oakview Place. Dad was born in on May 21, 1915 and was employed at the C.P.R. Weston Shops until his retirement in 1976 at the age of 61. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Harold and Leslie; sisters, Doris, Hilda and Edna; and his grandson Byron. He is survived by his beloved wife Hilda (nee Swanson); children, Marion, Ivan (Sigrid), Beverley (Mel), David (Ruth) all of Winnipeg and Wayne (Geri) of Aldergrove, BC; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Dad's life was filled with family and he especially adored his grandchildren. He loved to tell stories and crack jokes and was very neighbourly. He also had a phenomenal memory extending back to his early years. He loved music, dancing and was likened to Fred Astaire and was still biking and ice skating at 85 years of age. He also enjoyed tinkering, repairing bicycles and enjoyed his sports and reading the newspaper from cover to cover. Our family would like to extend many thanks to the staff for the care he received while at Oakview. A funeral service will be held at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Ave. (across from Brookside Cemetery) on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. with viewing to take place one hour prior to service. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • It's been 3 years now since your passing, time has healed some of the pain I've felt. But some of the pain is still there, not a day goes by that I don't think of you. I miss you so much you were such a wonderful man. I am so fortunate have had the best Gramps in the whole world. You may not have taught how to swing the bat, or shoot with the stick, but you gave me them, so I had the tools to learn the games I love. And in some way you were preparing me for life. I wish we had just a little more time together so you got to see Ryden, which makes me very sad, because I know you would've loved him. Natasha, me & the kids miss you so much. I am happy that you are no longer suffering, that you have been reunited with your parents and siblings. It's a small measure of comfort, but it does make these emotions hurt a lot less. Quite often when I'm in a store and I see some candy or chocolate bar that you used to eat, I think of you. You had such a sweet tooth, which is quite fitting because underneath you were such a sweet man. I just wanted to thank you for bring such a wonderful influence in my life. I will always try to make you proud, thanks for all you did for me and for my family. I could not have asked for better, because I had the best-you. You will never be forgotten, and I will see you again, even though it will be a long time till that happens. I will still love you and miss you until then. Take care Gramps.
