Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMASAJI ICHIIWA Peacefully on May 18, 2010 our father Masaji passed away at the Seven Oaks General Hospital in the company of his loving family. He was predeceased by his wife Meriko (Mary) brothers Yoshio (Jackson) and Akira (Aki), and sisters Kiwako and Terue. He will be sadly missed by his sister Teruko (Takesi), son Wayne (Sue), and daughters, Diane (Paul) and Cathy (Dale), granddaughters, Christina (Mitch) and Haley, great-granddaughter Keila, step-grandchildren Lisa and Michael, and many friends and relatives. Dad was born on June 18, 1921 in the fishing village of Steveston, BC. At a young age he went to live in Takui Wakayama in Japan and returned to BC as a teenager to work. When the Second World War began, Dad was sent to an internment camp in the Thunder Bay area. After the war, Dad moved to Winnipeg where he met and married Meriko. Dad worked as a lumber cutter throughout Northern Ontario and retired in 1986. Dad was a very patient, caring, devoted and loving husband to Meriko. Dad was also a very kind and gentle soul who loved children and animals. His greatest joy was having his grandkids around him. Growing up we had many pets and Dad was especially fond of his dog Corey. He enjoyed fishing and was a huge baseball fan. His favourite team was the Toronto Blue Jays. Special thanks to the staff at the Maples Personal Care Home and the Seven Oaks General Hospital for the compassionate care and attention they gave Dad. We will miss you Dad, but we take comfort in knowing you are in a better place. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on May 26, 2010 at the Manitoba Buddhist Church located at 825 Winnipeg Avenue. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to either the Alzheimer's Association of Canada or the Arthritis Society of Canada.
