NELLIE JEAN SPILCHUK (LENCHYSHYN) (nee GREGORASH) February 25, 1919 February 26, 2010 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving Mama, Baba, and Great-Baba Nellie Spilchuk, who was taken on February 26, 2010 by our Heavenly Father to continue her journey in eternal life. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her children Joanne (Julien) Gerard, Lawrence (Sonya) Lenchyshyn, Dennis (Sally) Lenchyshyn, Dianne Wallace, son-in-law Tony Makodanski, as well as 17 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her sisters Anne Lischynski and Jean Pachol, sisters-in-law Anne Cinch and Nellie Lenchyshyn, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Fred Lenchyshyn, second husband Anthony Spilchuk, daughter Alice Makodanski and son Paul (at birth), grandson Gregory, parents Joseph and Mary Gregorash, sisters Carol and Josephine, and brothers John, Pete, Mike, Steve, Tony, and William. She was born into a family of 11 children in La Broquerie, Manitoba. She met and married her first love Fred, on October 19, 1936. They lived on a dairy and grain farm in Glenlea, Manitoba where they raised their five children. Farm life beside the Red River always had its challenges. Mama loved to sew, cook and bake, tend to the animals, and manage a huge garden. Hospitality was her greatest asset all of her life. She loved company and family celebrations. She became a widow when she was 40 and later married Anthony Spilchuck on June 18, 1966. They resided in Winnipeg and travelled extensively across Canada. She loved spending time with her family and grand-children who were always her number one priority. She became a widow again on March 14, 1998. Mama was a proud member of Christ the King Catholic Women's League for 30 years and attended many functions with her daughters. She was a lifetime member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Chapel, St. Norbert, Manitoba. As her health declined, Beacon Hill Lodge would become her last permanent residence. The family would like to thank the staff for the care they provided her over her last years. Also, thank you to Bertrande Liberty and Suzanne Wiebe who brought Holy Communion to our mother and for their many visits. Thank you also to Eileen Miault for her many visits. All was greatly appreciated! A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 31 Riel Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba with Reverend Deacon Leon Twerdun officiating. Interment will follow at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery, Lot 1282, Red River Drive, St. Norbert, Manitoba. Prayers will be May 28, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations to our mother's memory can be made to a charity of your choice. Rest in peace Mama. VICHNAYA PAM'YAT
