SHU NGAN LEE It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Shu Ngan Lee on May 24, 2010 at Victoria General Hospital at the age of 98 years. She was predeceased by her husband Jim Yuen Lee in June 1986. Left to cherish her memory are her son Gim Loon with his wife So Ung and their children Donald (Polly), Mary (Billy), David and Judy; great-grandchildren Samantha, Steven, Matthew, Michelle and Marcus and nephews in New York and Boston. Goon Shu was born on November 2, 1911 in Guandong Province in China. She came to Canada with her son Gim Loon in 1953 to join her husband who had been in Canada for several years already. Together the three of them owned and operated a couple of restaurants in rural Manitoba before settling down in Manitou in 1958. The Grand Cafe became their home and business for many years before Goon Shu and her husband retired to Winnipeg in 1975. After her husband's passing in 1986, Goon Shu lived an active and independent life in Harmony Mansion until 2005 when Beacon Hill Lodge became her final home. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 28, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Home with interment to follow in Brookside Cemetery.
