GENE OCZKOWSKI It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Gene Oczkowski, devoted husband and father, on May 26, 2010 at the St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 71 with his family by his side. Gene was born in Winnipeg on June 17, 1938 to Stefanie Dezymala and John Oczkowski. Growing up modestly and as the son of recent immigrants from Poland, Gene learned the value of hard work and family dedication. Earning a Bachelor of Science, Masters of Science, Masters of Arts, and PhD in Psychology, he went on to practice psychology at the St. Boniface General Hospital, until his retirement in 2004. Gene developed a zest for travelling as a young man, starting with visiting Poland with his parents. This zest continued through his life, travelling to many countries around the world. He was predeceased by his mother and father and leaves to mourn his wife of 32 years, Helen Oczkowski, and his son, J.P. Oczkowski. Prayers and Eulogy will be said at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Monday, May 31, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the dedication and hard work of the doctors and nurses at CancerCare Manitoba and Palliative Care staff of the St. Boniface Hospital.
