Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERNICE SHIRLEY MARCOE June 3, 1926 - May 26, 2010 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, wife, grandmother, and friend Bernice Marcoe at the St. Boniface Hospital on May 26, 2010. She was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Lillian, and recently by her beloved son, Paul. Bernice is survived by her loving husband, Leonard, dear daughter, Valli, amazing grandson, Jack, Paul's partner, Karen, sister Geraldine Brick, brother Alvin Zivot, wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews, and cherished friends. Bernice was educated at McGill University and the University of Manitoba where she obtained her degree in Social Work and dedicated her career in a social services capacity, including working at City Hall West Kildonan and the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities. She was a true believer in social justice and education, and demonstrated a strong work ethic - values which were instilled in her children, and passed on to clients and friends. Bernice had a strong, happy, loving and fulfilling relationship with her husband Leonard and was instrumental in assisting him in the pursuit of his dream of returning to school and promoting artists and owning his art gallery. Bernice and Leonard recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. She loved travel and enjoyed her winter vacations to Cuba and Mexico and always had amusing experiences and stories to share. Bernice faced several medical challenges the last few years and was courageous and strong. The family is grateful for the excellent medical attention and resources extended, which permitted Bernice some independence and to continue with a high quality of life in her home. We also wish to thank family and friends for providing assistance and support. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 28, 2010. The family wishes to extend an invitation to family and friends to visit, reminisce, share stories and memories of Bernice on Saturday, May 29, 2010 commencing at 7:00 p.m. at their home on Victor Lewis Drive. Flowers are gratefully declined, if you wish to do so, a donation may be made to the charity of your choice.
