RONALD HUDSON 1922 - 2010 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Ronald Cyril Douglas Hudson, of Winnipeg and formerly of Rosser Municipality on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Deer Lodge Centre. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Joan Zaretsky (Rick) and son Terry (Linda Ridley), his only surviving sister, Merle Fanning of Mountain View, California and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Helen, his sisters Louise Dunnett and Margaret Eva Lloyd, and his brothers Edgar, Percy, Clifford, Arthur and Harvey. Ron was born on August 19, 1922 to George Hudson and Mary Dickson Hudson in Crystal City, Manitoba. At the age of 12, he moved to Rosser Municipality where he worked on the farm and completed his education. Ron served as a tail gunner during the Second World War, stationed in Bournemouth, England. He enjoyed his membership with the Wartime Pilots Association and Stonewall Legion. In 1947 he married Helen Sutcliffe in Birtle, Manitoba. They lived on the farm in Rosser, farming with his brother Percy. Ron and Helen adopted Joan and Terry and enjoyed many wonderful years on the farm. In 1969, the Canadian Pacific Railway purchased the home farm and the family house was physically relocated on the Perimeter Highway. Ron had many loves including gardening, bowling and dancing. He fulfilled his dream of getting his pilots license in 1972. As an electrician, he loved to visit friends and neighbours when they called with an electrical problem. He and Helen enjoyed travelling in their motorhome with friends and relatives. In 1990, they built a new cottage on the farm which became their home. Ron was saddened with Helen's death on March 1, 1996, on their 49th anniversary. Dad was always a very kind gentle man who loved his family and friends. He was easygoing and never complained. He will be missed. His funeral will be held at Thomson's Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 2 at 1:00 p.m. A light lunch will be followed with interment at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3.
