STANISLAW (STAN) GIGIEL Peacefully, while at home with his family, after long battle with cancer, Stanislaw (Stan) passed away on June 3, 2010 at age 80. Stan was born in Sambor, Poland on April 13, 1930. In Poland, prior to, during and after his conscription to compulsory military service with the Russian Navy from 1952 to 1956, Stan worked in his chosen field as an electrical technician in power generation. Stanislaw met his wife Kazimiera in Poland and they were married in 1957. Stan's first son, John, was born in 1958. In 1960, Stan immigrated to Canada with his wife and two year-old son, residing in Winnipeg. Their second son, Robert, was born in 1967. Stan worked as a Machine Operator at MacMillan Bathurst in Winnipeg for over 33 and one half years until his retirement in 1995. Stan was predeceased by his parents, three sisters and one brother in Poland. Stan will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years, Kazimiera; his son John and wife Terisa of Winnipeg, and his son Robert and wife Renata Urbanik of Calgary. He is also survived by one brother; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces in Poland. A faithful member of Holy Ghost Parish since arriving in Winnipeg, Stanislaw's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Ghost Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue, on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with an Oblate Father officiating. Visitation will be held one half-hour before the Mass at Holy Ghost Church beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Stan's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, P.O. Box 2248, Station Main, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9. The family wishes to thank Dr. Irena Darczewski, Dr. Lau and Dr. Tan, along with all the Palliative Care nurses and home health care workers for their excellent care, kindness and compassion.
