VALERIE E. FARR (SALTER) Peacefully on May 25, 2010, with family by her side, Mum passed away at the St. Boniface General Hospital. Valerie was born in England in 1928; she and Dad married there in 1956. Mum and Dad, and their four children immigrated to Canada in 1967, settling in Winnipeg in 1970. Mum loved children (especially babies) and pets. She was a devoted wife, full time mother and Nanny. Her family meant the world to her, and she showed it by making each of us feel special. She had a wonderful sense of humour and kept up to date with television, books, and new recipes. Mum was a child in England, when the Second World War broke out. While she and her family endured difficult times, she also had many fond memories which she shared with all of us. Mum was college trained as a shorthand typist. She truly loved her parents and had a special bond with her Dad, admiring his intelligence and hard work. Mum had a special talent for, and took great joy in, always finding just the perfect gifts. She excelled at sewing and created special pieces for many of us. Her cooking was her special pride and we have many happy memories of her preparing dinners and foods for special occasions. We will remember her Cornish pasties, Christmas cake and the chocolate brownies (those often made with her grandson's assistance!) She thoroughly enjoyed Christmas and family celebrations. Mum had a great love of music - especially the Beatles and the British Invasion. She passed her love of music on to all of her children. Nanny was so very proud of her grandchildren and was closely involved with their lives. Valerie will be deeply missed by her husband Terry; her children Lorainne, Stephen (Kathryn), Suzanne (Blair) and Jeanette (Brad); and her beloved grandchildren Margaret, John, Brendan and Claire. Also left to cherish her memory are her sister Betty and brother-in-law Doug, and brother-in-law Dave, and extended family in England. Cremation has taken place. Interment will follow at a later date when the family will hold a private graveside service. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nursing staff of 3B at St. Boniface Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Winnipeg Humane Society.
