BORIS EDWARD BENJAMIN LEFTERUK August 7, 1937 - June 4, 2010 After a short illness, with his family by his side, Boris left this life. He is survived by his wife Pollyanna (nee Bobula) of 51 years; his daughters, Davolyn Liusz (Ted), Rhonda Dmytriw (Gord), Leslee Lefteruk (Randy Harris); his grandchildren, Allyson, Andrew and Lauryn Liusz, Adam, Ian, and Aidan Dmytriw, Meghan and baby Harris; his brother Lloyd and sister Caroline. He will also be remembered by the many people whose lives he touched. He is predeceased by his daughter Alison Marguerite; his parents, Nick and Annie Lefteruk; his in-laws, Paul and Katherine Bobula; his brother Donald Lefteruk; his sisters, Donna Jane Lefteruk and Polly Anne Roy. Boris was born in Selkirk, Manitoba and grew up on a small farm in St. Peters. He attended elementary school at Hoey West and high school at Selkirk Collegiate. He received his Teaching Certificate at Normal School in Tuxedo, his BA and B Ed from the University of Manitoba and his Masters of Library Science from the University of Western Michigan (Kalamazoo). Boris enjoyed mechanics, hunting, fishing, curling and partying. However, there was nothing that he enjoyed more than teaching. During his first two years of teaching at Whytewold Beach he established a youth club where he taught wood working and square dancing. He met and married the love of his life, Pollyanna, and the two taught in Flin Flon from 1958 to 1960. In Flin Flon he joined the Knights of Columbus, became bulletin editor and bicycle safety instructor. They moved to St. Norbert where his involvement with the K of C continued until the Catholic Church became a French only facility. Boris was a member of the St. Vital Parish from 1979 to the present. Boris was active in his professional associations. He served on several curriculum committees and on film and video evaluation committees. He was a founding member of the MSLAVA where he served on the professional development committee for many years and as President for one year. He was a delegate to AGM, a member of various provincial committees, a member of the Assiniboine South School Division (ASSD) negotiating team, a member of the ASSD Professional Development committee and President of the Association. Boris was involved in student and teacher curling leagues in Charleswood and was the draw master for many years. Boris cherished his family and established many traditions that will carry us through the rest of our lives. He was known for his hospitality and welcomed many family and friends to his home. The family would like to thank the staff of MICU/CCU at Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre for their excellent care and support, especially Dr. B. Brown and Nurses, Kathy and Semir. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Vital Catholic Church, officiated by Father Barry Schoonbaert, 1629 Pembina Hwy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Maurice Catholic School (452-2873) or the charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to LECLAIRE BROTHERS 775-2220.
