JAMES MURRAY June 16, 1950 - June 04, 2010 Peacefully, in the early hours of Friday, June 4, at home in Keewatin with his wife Karen at his side, James passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Jamie will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife Karen, her parents Lloyd and Marlene, daughters Cathy (Mark), Kristy (Justin), granddaughters Molly, Julia and Milla, sister-in-law Val, brothers-in-law Craig (Kathy) and Noel (Alvina), his sister Cathy, brothers Angus (Barb) and Tom, niece Kristen and nephew Scott, his many close friends and of course his faithful feline companions Annie and Freddie. James was predeceased by his mother Isabel (Blue), father Angus, and his younger brother Alec. Jamie and Karen settled in their Keewatin lake home after leaving LaSalle almost ten years ago. It was a dream realized as they combined a lake lifestyle with their thriving printing business. Here the doors were always wide open to friends, family, neighbours and the occasional creatures of nature. Many a dinner party was held with Jamie holding court enjoying a finger or two of Dram or Scotch. Being at nature's doorstep and enjoying all aspects of lake life, especially cruising with Karen in Nautenuftyme, their fun-filled cruise boat, so aptly named. Jamie lived his life with passion. His thirst for knowledge, love of art, history and current events was insatiable. One of his notable sensitivities was rescuing stray or lost animals, and bringing them home to be looked after. Previously in Winnipeg, Jamie had worked with the Wildlife Federation and owned and operated his own art gallery. On the river in LaSalle, Jamie, Karen, Kristy and Cathy lived in and renovated an old barn turning it into an incredible home, which Kristy and Justin still enjoy to this day. Jamie and Karen, along with Karen's parents spent many winter vacations in the Bahamas lapping up the sun and scenery, and making very good friends with some very dear people. There, Jamie loved to explore the clear blue depths in his scuba gear. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to all the health care providers who were involved in his care in Winnipeg and Kenora, especially, Dr. Leylek, Dr. Navaratnam, Dr. Penner, Dr. Beveridge, and their staff who went above and beyond with the utmost of sensitive and caring attention. And a very fond thanks to special friend and caregiver Kim Savage. A celebration of Jamie's life will take place in Winnipeg on Thursday, June 17 at 1:00 p.m. at Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 or Toronto Humane Society, 11 River Street, Toronto, ON M5A 4C2. May the blessing of light be on you.

  • It is with great sadness that I came across the news of Jamie's death quite by accident. I remember the time he spent with us in Bermuda as a teenager. He seems to have inherited his parents' love of art and learning. I was blessed to know the family when I was a student in Winnipeg. My sympathies to Cathy, Tom and Angus. I still think of the family fondly. Blessings from Mississauga, Ontario. - Posted by: Jennifer Amoah (Family friend) on: Jun 19, 2020
