ISABEL GWYNNE (nee MCFARLAND) Peacefully at West Park Manor, Isabel passed away on Monday, June 7, 2010. She leaves to mourn her children; Michael, Cathy (Randy) Beynon and Paul (Marcy), grandchildren; Valerie and Dale Beynon and Alex and Max Gwynne, sister Alice McFaddin and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Alex in 2001 and her sister Joyce McFarland in 2003. Isabel was born in 1920 in Hamiota and grew up on the family farm near Cardale. In 1939 she answered an ad to work in Grand Marais at Tessmer's Store where she made a lifelong friend, Margaret. Later she attended business school in Winnipeg where she made another lifelong friend, Eileen. In 1949 she married Alexander Gwynne and they had three children. While family remained her anchor, she enjoyed another career as school secretary at Ellen Douglass School and Carpathia School. She and Alex were early members at Westworth United Church, where they were very active. The U.C. Women, Unit 8, was a very important part of her life. In retirement, Isabel and Alex enjoyed travelling around North America and Europe, their fondest memories being the people they met. In later years when Parkinson's disease slowed her down, Isabel still enjoyed the social community at West Park Manor during her nine years there. She was so proud to have four grandchildren to talk about. The family expresses their appreciation and admiration to the staff at West Park Manor for their love and care and to Chris for her companionship. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson Society of Canada, 7 - 414 Westmount Dr., Winnipeg, MB, R2J 1P2. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 11, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with Rev. Clark Saunders officiating. Interment and reception will follow.
