SUSAN MAIR LUCY In Halifax on Monday, June 7, 2010, aged 59 years. The daughter of Celia Lucy and the late John D. Lucy of Winnipeg, she was born in Denbigh, Wales and raised on the Prairies. She is survived by her husband Ernie Manicom, daughter Kate Manicom, brothers Roger Lucy and his wife Susan Howell of Ottawa and Simon Lucy and his wife Leslie Malcolmson of Winnipeg, brother-in-law Richard Manicom and his wife Esther Cormier of Ottawa, and nephews Malcolm and Alexander Lucy and James and Daniel Manicom. Susan will be remembered for her passionate interest in cooking, spinning, dyeing, knitting, children's literature, and France. She loved to play with words and derived great pleasure from her work as an editor with Communications Nova Scotia. But above all, she was the perfect travelling companion, a loving wife, and a wonderful mother. Her family wishes to thank the medical team at the QE II Health Sciences Centre who supported her over the past eight months, and in particular the staff of 5A, whose professionalism and empathy were so comforting. Susan, who was never at a loss for an appropriate quote, would say that she is in the way to study a long silence. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Friday June 11, with a memorial ceremony to be held at 11 am Saturday June 12th, all in the A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Susan's longstanding favourite charity, Médecins sans Frontières, or to the QE II Foundation of Halifax.
