MINORU (MOE) IZUMI Peacefully, on June 8, 2010, Minoru Moe Izumi passed away at the age of 75 years. Minoru was born in Fanny Bay, British Columbia on September 19, 1934 and moved to Greenwood, BC as a young child due to the forced relocation of Japanese Canadians during the war. He then moved with his family to Winnipeg in May, 1946 and settled in the East Kildonan and North Kildonan area. He lived in his family home for 55 years before moving to River East Personal Care Home in 2001. Predeceased by his parents, Hisao and Miyako; brother, Kiyoshi; and sister, Kazuko, Minoru is survived by cousins, Irene Okano, Connie Matsuo, and Lucy Shimoda, and their families. Minoru's two elder sisters, Kazuko and Nobuko, left the family to accompany their grandmother to Japan when Minoru was an infant. Although the two have never met or had contact with each other, Minoru is survived by Nobuko in Japan. Minoru lived a simple life. He enjoyed hockey, football, and bowling, and would always talk about Bomber players and NHL players from the 1950s and 1960s. He especially enjoyed New Year's celebrations with his cousins each year. Minoru had a special bond with his cousin, Irene Okano, who diligently and faithfully kept her promise to Minoru's brother, Kiyoshi, to care for Minoru. Whether it was a good day or a bad day, Minoru always knew that Irene was there to make things better. Our special thanks to the staff of River East Personal Care Home for making Minoru feel at home for the past nine years. Great appreciation is extended to Dr. C. Isaac at Concordia Hospital for his care and compassion during Minoru's recent hospital stay. Minoru's family is also very grateful to East Kildonan Family Services for their care of Minoru from 1992-2001. Cremation has taken place. Minoru will join his parents and brother at Brookside Cemetery. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined by the family.
