CATHERINE HANSELL (nee MacKenzie) October 17, 1918 - June 12, 2010 Passed away peacefully at the Misericordia Health Centre. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Ken; daughter Donna Brigham; son Gary; grandchildren Ian (Joanne) Brigham, Dawn Brigham and great-grand-children Julia, Lauren and Grace. Also one sister Lee Bruce and her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her only brother, Norman, who was a casualty of the Second World War; her parents Ian and Mary; her sister Kay Ulyatt, and her son-in-law Frank Brigham. Mom was born in Portnaguran, The Isle of Lewis, in the Scottish Hebrides and came to Canada with her family in 1923. She was very proud of her Gaelic roots and returned to the Isle of Lewis several times in her later life. She was a longtime member of the former Harstone United Church and then transferred to Westworth United. She was also a longtime member of Jubilee Chapter #27, Order of the Eastern Star. The most loved times of her life were spent at the family cottage at Lee River where her and Dad spent their summers with their children, later their grandchildren and lastly their great-grandchildren. We would like to express our gratitude to all the staff of Misericordia Health Centre C5 for the excellent and compassionate care that Mom and our family received over the past year. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Westworth United Church, Grosvenor Avenue at Lanark Street, with Rev. Mona Denton officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined, and donations in Mom's name may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. Many years ago Mom told us that she wasn't afraid of dying because she had more people to say hello to than she had to say goodbye to. Thank you Mom, for those words, as they are a comfort to us at this most difficult time. WE'LL MEET AGAIN THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 BROADWAY, WINNIPEG, MB R3C OX4 783-7211 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsonfuneralchapel.com
