JOHN (GUS) AUGUSTUS EDWARD ST. JAMES
Date of Passing: Jun 13, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN (GUS) AUGUSTUS EDWARD ST. JAMES Peacefully on Sunday, June 13, 2010 after a lengthy illness and courageous battle with cancer, Gus passed away surrounded by his loving family at the age of 73 years. Left behind to cherish Gus' memories are his loving wife Del; daughters Janet Wiess (Dave), Kathy Hill (Jim); son Tim (Natalie); six grandchildren, Matthew, Chloe, Tyler, Dean, Drew and his funny bunny Lily, who all brought such joy to Papa; as well as lovingly remembered by his sisters June, Mame, Loreen, Lani and Sandra, and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary Alice and Denny; brothers Tom, Frank, Gail, and his sister Geraldine. Gus joined the Armed Forces in November 1958 and after 34 years, he retired in June 1992. He loved the life the Armed Forces gave him, seeing many different countries and making friends along the way. Unable to give up work completely, Gus bartended at the WO's and Sergeants Mess for 16 years, and loved it because he was able to keep in contact with all of his buddies. He had many, many friends, as he made friends wherever he went, and will be sadly missed by them all For those who knew Gus well, knew that golf was his passion. A good day for Papa would be 18 holes at Teulon and then time spent with his family and friends. He was able to pursue that passion daily until he became ill. He worked hard to get better every day and fought a hard fight until the end. A Celebration of Gus' Life will be held on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Roman Catholic Church, 2235 Silver Avenue at Whytewold Road, with Rev. Fr. Lance Magdziak, presider. On behalf of our family, we would like to thank all the staff at the Grace Hospital for all of their compassion and care while looking after Gus. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Suite 200, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or CancerCare of Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Finally Peace

Loreen will be surprised to hear from me; it's been years. This obituary was sent on to me by Bob Barry; much appreciated. Growing up in Iroquois Falls I greatly admired the sisters, Mrs. St. James and Mrs. Devine and how well they handled their families. Gus was always a lot of fun! I'm sure he was a wonderful Dad and Grampa and I have no doubt you will all miss him very much. Many blessings to all the family.
