AGNES ELIZABETH ROY (nee COOK) It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great- grandmother Agnes Elizabeth Roy (nee Cook) on June 12, 2010 at the Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg, MB with her family by her side. Agnes was born on April 30, 1928 and was raised in Ashern, MB until the age of 17. After graduating from high school she worked that summer at the Creamery in Ashern, MB. In the Fall she attended Success Business College in Winnipeg and also worked for Shoemacker McKenzie. Agnes met and married William, moved to BC, and resided there for a few years. While there, she gave birth to her only son, David. She then moved back to Manitoba where she lived in Winnipeg until her passing. Mom gave most of her working years to Cooper and Lybrand and then with The Asper's at CanWest. She was considered a professional secretary and had won many awards in this field. Her free time was spent lawn bowling at the River Heights Lawn Bowling Club or at the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. Her passion in life was travelling and Agnes toured all over the world from Churchill to Europe to Australia and everywhere in between. She made several trips to visit family in England with each trip documented by many photographs and slides to share with family and friends. Agnes will be sadly missed by her son David Roy (Jennifer Ballentyne), grandchildren James (Catherine) Roy, Richard Roy and Lacy Maria Roy, great-grandchildren Michelia and Hayden Roy, brother John (Mary) Cook along with other family members. She was predeceased by her parents Micheal and Mary Cook, cousin Margaret Judy Hay and niece Linda Kufus. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Ave., (across from Brookside Cemetery) in Winnipeg, MB with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in the Ashern Municipal Cemetery. We would like to extend a special thank you to the Misericordia Interim Care Unit for the care they provided to Mom during her time there along with the support given from the River Heights Lawn Bowling Club and everyone who took the time to visit her and send cards over the last months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or to a charity of one's choice.
