NESTOR BOZYK Sadly, the family announces the peaceful passing of Nestor Bozyk, who fell asleep in the Lord after a brief struggle with pancreatic cancer on June 16, 2010 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Manitoba. Nestor was predeceased by his wife Vi in 2008; son Robert George in infancy; parents, Gawrylo (Mike) and Verna; brother Victor Bozyk; and sisters, Luba Onysko, Rita Salavich and Eileen Makowetsky. He is survived by sisters, Doris Prygrocki, Myrtle Osachuk and Sonya Grier. Nestor will be lovingly remembered by his children, Very Reverend Ronald Bozyk (Genia), Vera Gusnoski (Raymond), Susan Bozyk-Purcell (Kevin); his grandchildren, Christopher, Corinne and Colleen Gusnoski, Eric and Evan Purcell. Nestor was born on December 28, 1929 in Arbakka, Manitoba. He grew up helping on the family farm and attended Shevchenko School. Early in life, after working as a woodcutter in the forest of Northern Ontario, he returned to Vita and joined Manitoba Hydro at the very beginning of the electrification of southeastern Manitoba. He soon started his own business, Bozyk Electric, notably bringing the first television to Vita that he generously shared with the community. He later worked at the Shevchenko School and retired from Canadian Standards Association in 1994. On April 25, 1953 Nestor married Vi Davis. Together they raised their family and showed great commitment to the community in both work and life. Although work briefly took Nestor and Vi to Winnipeg, they later enjoyed their retirement years back in Vita. Nestor was a generous, kind and gentle man, who was always willing to help others. Ukrainian culture and traditional family gatherings were important to him. He was a lifetime member of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Vita and a longtime member of the Order of St. Andrew. The family would like to thank the staff of Vita, St. Boniface and Bethesda Hospitals for their comfort and care. Panakhyda Memorial Prayers will be held on Friday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Vita Funeral Homes Vita Chapel Vita, Manitoba. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 19 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Vita, Manitoba. Donations in memory of Nestor Bozyk may be made to the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Vita, Manitoba, St. Andrew's College, 29 Dysart Road, Winnipeg, MB R3T 2M7 or a charity of your choice.
