ELISABETH (BETTY) HELENA CHAMPAGNE (WALDBAUER) June 21, 1923 - June 16, 2010 Peacefully, at the St. Adolphe Personal Care Home, on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, with her family by her side, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away at the age of 86. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Don (Cathi), Donna Cookie (Rick) Lyle, Pat (Milt) McDonald, grandchildren Keith Champagne, Daryl (Ainsley) Champagne, Jody Champagne (Corralie Smith), Ryan Bayne, Carrie (Chad) Vandale, Scott McDonald, Kristin McDonald (Greg Tomsic), great-grandchildren Jadan, Logan, Tyler, Kaylee, Alyssa, Emma, Erika, Ethan, Tyler, Austin, Kayla, Kane, her two sisters Irene Penner, Marjorie Paliw, several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Gus Frenchy , infant son Bobby, mother, father, five brothers and two sisters. Betty was born in Nipawin, Saskatchewan on June 21, 1923. She met Gus while enlisted in the army, and was married on November 23, 1944. Together, they raised their family and ran a corner grocery store in St. Vital. Nearing retirement, they built a home and farmed in Richer. After Gus took ill they moved back to St. Vital, where she resided until ill health made it necessary for her to enter St. Adolphe Personal Care Home. Betty was an avid league bowler, enjoyed Bingo, playing cards, going on casino outings, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her family. Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Green Acres Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Keith, Daryl, Jody, Ryan, Scott and Chad. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank all the caring staff at St. Adolphe Personal Care Home and a special thanks to nurse Irene for her compassion at the end. You will always be loved and missed.
