MELISSA RAE TOURAND (nee JONASSON) February 5, 1980 June 15, 2010 Melissa Rae Jonasson was born in Winnipeg February 5, 1980 and passed away suddenly at home Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the age of 30 years. Left to cherish Melissa's memory are her parents, Ken and Sharon Jonasson; brother Mark, with whom she had a close relationship; mother-in-law Monica Tourand; father-in-law Mike Mansell; their children, Braeden and Miranda; Jean-Paul Tourand, the father of her children; Grandmother Ann Cook; numerous aunts and uncles and her large circle of beloved cousins with whom she has spent many happy times. Melissa's cousins' children held a special place in her heart. Her passing will leave a huge void in the lives of her three sons, Devon (12 years), Dylan (7 years) and Liam (5 years). She was predeceased by cousins, Brad Cook and Nadine Jonasson; Grandpa Russell Cook; Amma; Afi; Dyrunn and Leo Jonasson. Friends were a large part of Melissa's life and she seemed to collect them easily as she made her way from childhood to adulthood. She has maintained some of these relationships since early childhood. She received all her schooling in St. James where she grew up. She attended Strathmillan, Golden Gate, and graduated from Sturgeon Creek Collegiate. Melissa was a Brownie, a Girl Guide, swam competitively with St. James Seals and loved riding horses. She became a Pharmacy Technician and was just finishing her second year in the nursing program at RRCC. She was on the Dean's Honour Roll her first year in nursing and would have been a caring and compassionate nurse. Melissa, your struggles are over and you can now rest in peace. You tried so hard and we will miss you more than you know. You were so loved. We will all help your boys to develop and grow to become the kind of men you had hoped for and the life you had envisioned for them. They will always know how much you loved them. On Wednesday, June 23, 2010, Melissa's funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Please join Melissa's family for a reception following the funeral service at the Assiniboine Gordon Inn on the Park in Salon A, 1975 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba. To honour Melissa's memory, please spend some time with someone who is facing difficulties, whether physical or emotional, she would like that. Our family would like to thank Wojcik's Funeral Chapel and all of the people who have showed such care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Melissa's name to a charity of your choice. A Trust Fund has been set up for Melissa's children at the Assiniboine Credit Union, 1907 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3J 0H9.
