JOHN KEHLER Peacefully on Saturday, June 19, 2010 our father and grandfather passed away at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 84. John was predeceased by his loving wife Elizabeth in 1968; father Hans Kehler in 1938; mother Sara DeFehr in 1988; brothers Victor Kehler in 1962 and Jake Kehler in 1988; sister Sophie Sacher in 2007; step-father Heinrich DeFehr in 1971; step-sister Helen Regehr in 1997; and brother-in-law Bill Sacher in 1989. John will be lovingly remembered by his five children, Johnny, Rudy, Linda (Randy), Ingrid (Bruce), Victor (Debbie) and his four grandchildren Jennifer, Stefanie, Amanda and Melanie. He also leaves to cherish his step-sisters, Kate Kehler, Anne DeFehr and Velma (Charles); step-brother-in-law Eugene Regehr; along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. John was born on January 31, 1926 in Grünfeld, Ukraine. He arrived in Canada in 1947 and lived in Niverville, Manitoba for a short time before moving to Winnipeg, Manitoba where he married Elizabeth Epp in 1951. He had taken on various jobs until the time he started his own business Kildonan Plastering in 1955 and then retiring in 1987. John enjoyed life and looked forward to family get togethers. He had a passion for fishing, playing cards, gardening, cooking, listening to his favourite records and spending time with his friends. The family would like to thank the entire staff on 5B and the Central Dialysis Unit at the St. Boniface Hospital for their excellent care of and support to our father (Opa). Special thanks to Pauline Janzen and the late Jake Janzen for their compassion and spiritual guidance. A celebration of John's life will be held on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1131 Roch Street, with viewing one hour prior to service.
