ENGELBERT (BERT) RUF, JR. On June 18, 2010 our beloved Father, Brother and Son passed away at the tender age of 44. Bert fought very hard but this battle was not to be won. Bert was born in Winnipeg on April 29, 1966 and brought great joy to his parents. He graduated from West St. Paul School, where he excelled in Track and Field and baseball, winning a trophy in Grade 9 for All Around Sportsman. He graduated Grade 12 from West Kildonan Collegiate, where he excelled in football and rugby and won again the trophy for All Around Sportsman. Bert played for the Moradas and St. Vital Mustangs and later played for the St. James Rods and Winnipeg Senior Mustangs. He also competed in a local Strong Man Competition, wrestled and played hockey. Bert loved life, his daughters and people around him without reservation. Bert was predeceased by his father Bert Sr., aunts, uncles and grandparents in Germany and Paraguay. He is survived by his precious daughters, Brenna and Kerra and their mother Carla. He is also survived by his mother Toni, brother David (Brenda), sister Elizabeth, nephew Matthew, aunt Sonia Wiens and family, uncle Mike and Eva Ruf and family. He also leaves family in Germany, Paraguay, Australia and Ukraine. He will be missed by his close friend and Godfather to his children, Mike and many other good friends, too many to mention, that he kept close to his heart. Bert was employed at Purolator Courier. He loved the people on his route and always talked about how much they meant to him and how he enjoyed the laughter and discussions. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 26 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Mountain and Andrews. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Going on 7 years and I STILL can't believe he's gone. He was my best friend. We would always compete with each other , and he sometimes won ! Ha ha ! One of the all around best athletes . He won the provincial award for male athlete of the year 3 times. I still hear about his prowess as a goalie and the many other sports he played .one of the best guys you will ever meet. I love you Bart and I miss you everyday. I miss calling him and bugging him in only the way we could with each other. A special relationship that doesn't come around often. - Posted by: Dave Ruf (Brother) on: May 25, 2017

  • Another 3 years of past and I still think about Bert all the time hope his family is doing well I've also passed the news on to our former teamates when I do bump into them and it's no less sad as time passes on - Posted by: jay filbert (teamate and friend) on: Feb 13, 2016

  • Jay thank you very much for the kind words of Bart. I never knew Bart personally but I am engaged to his sister and have heard so many stories I feel like I know him. His mother and sister are very touched by your words and thank you for remembering how good of a man Bart really was. - Posted by: jeff ("brother in law") on: Feb 14, 2013

  • I only stumbled on Bert's announcement purely by accident. My deepest condolence from my family to yours....used to bump into him once in a while, share a laugh for a few mins and go our seperate ways. I went to West Kildonan Collegiate with Burt and Dave, also played 2 years together on the Maple Marauders offensive line together a position that is like 5 brothers all fighting together and one season 1987 with the St. James Rods jr. team. I had a lot of love for him. This news has really thrown me for a loop - Posted by: jay filbert (friend , football teamate) on: Feb 05, 2013
