CHARLES ALAN MCKAY May 24, 1932 - June 19, 2010 Peacefully, on Saturday, June 19, 2010, Charlie passed away with his family by his side after a battle with Prostate Cancer at the age of 78. He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Bev (Mike), Bruce (Rhonda) and Craig; along with his grandchildren, Kathleen, Lindy, Vicky, Megan, Ryan, Emily and Matthew, who were his pride and joy. He is also survived by his sister Marg Preston and brother Bill (Linda) McKay. Charlie was predeceased by his wife Marg in 1993; his parents, his brother Bob and sister-in-law Linda McKay. Charlie was born in Killarney, Manitoba and raised on the family farm. In 1959 he and Marg moved to Dauphin where he was the Imperial Oil Agent for many years. He left Imperial Oil to open his own fertilizer dealership under the Cominco brand. Charlie and Marg discovered a love of Mexico in the 1970s and spent time in Mexico every winter. After Marg's passing, Charlie continued his trips to Mazatlan where he would spend the winter. Mazatlan was Charlie's second home and he cherished the time spent there with a multitude of wonderful friends. When winter was over, he came back to Manitoba and enjoyed his time at his cabin on Lake Manitoba where he loved to fish. Next to heading to Mazatlan every October, a highlight of Charlie's year was when his children and grandchildren would head to the cabin to spend time with him in the summer. Charlie was blessed to have so many wonderful friends from every part of North America and he will be missed by many. We would like to thank the staff at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre for their kindness and compassion they gave to Dad over the last week. We especially want to thank all of his friends who opened their hearts and their homes to us on this difficult journey home. In keeping with Charlie's wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the Dauphin District Community Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba. Rest in Peace Grandpa, we love you.
