Date of Passing: Jun 27, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD (DICK) FRANCIS DAGG Peacefully, in his sleep, after a lengthy illness, Dick passed away on June 27, 2010. Left to mourn are Dick's wife Laura, of 60 years, his sons Richard (Heidi), Brian (Shelly), and his daughter Carol Lang (Brian). He loved and will be missed by all his grandchildren: Kristopher (Holly), Brian (Chantel), Catherine (Chris), Brianne, Erin, Melanie, David, Tanya (Steven) and Curt (Tina). His presence in the lives of his great-grandchildren, Anna, Meghan, Iris, Wyatt, Jacob, Benjamin, Joseph and one week old Blake Richard will be sorely missed. Dick's strong ties to his little sisters Patricia (Alfie) Tetlock and Mary-Ann (Ted) Playford continued from the day they were born. He relished in the relationships he had with his brothers-in-law and his nephews and nieces David (Kathy), Goldie (Pam), Tracy and their children, grandchildren of Ted's and Mary-Ann's, Ryan and Kyla. He will also be missed by Laura's family with whom he shared many enjoyable hours. Dick was predeceased by his beloved son John Bradley, age 25, in 1984, father Goldie in 1986 and mother Catherine in 2000. Dick was born on March 2, 1932 in Treherne, MB and he, with his family, followed his parents to Birch River in 1952 where he established a successful career as an electrician and he was an active member of the community. Dick obtained a private pilot's license and was a founding member of the Swan Valley Flying Club. After obtaining a commercial pilot's license, a career change ensued and he worked as a bush pilot for Ilford Riverton Airways for many years. He later moved to Winnipeg as Operations Manager for Aerotrades. He operated his own company - Airwest. Later endeavours included Keystone Air and most recently he enjoyed a special relationship with Taillieu Construction. Dick truly loved his profession and never a day passed without his mention of some aspect of his years spent flying. His years spent in the north particularly provided him with countless hours of wonderful memories. To the last day of his life he would state how fortunate and grateful he was to have had a career he approached with eager anticipation every working day of his life. Oh I have slipped the surly bonds of earth, And danced the skies on laughter silvered wings, Sunward I have climbed and joined the tumbling mirth, Of sun-split clouds and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - Wheeled and soared and swung High in sunlit silence. Hovering there ... Put out my hand, and touched the face of God. On behalf of Dick and the family we would like to thank Dr. M. Shnider and Janine for the care and concern that was given over many years. Friends so wishing may make donations in Dick's memory to the Western Aviation Museum or a charity of their choice. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Reception Centre, 4000 Portage Ave., 885-9715.
