SHIRLEY AGER (nee BOTTRELL) July 3, 1936 - June 26, 2010 In the early morning while the birds were singing, Shirley went home to be with her husband John the love of her life. Mom was predeceased by her husband John in 2006, grandson Rodmond in 2009, parents Earl and Edith Bottrell, son Pat, daughter Dianne, sister Mildred, and two infant sisters. She has left to cherish her memory her children Garth (Corie) Ager, Cheryl (Dave) Huska, Loretta Hernandez; friend Joe Mason; son-in-law Byron Hernandez; daughter Sandra Ager; grandchildren Roblyn and fiancé Alecia, Danielle Ager, Belinda and Peter Raposo, David and fiancé Andrea Berg, Katie, Skyler, Logan Hernandez and Taliya Mason (baby doll), Dwight Heinamann and the children of Sandy; great-grandchildren Olivia and Lucas Raposo and Tayler Huska along with numerous brothers, sisters and their families. Having this woman as our mother was a gift to all of us. Mom was the oldest of 14 in her family and in her younger years helped her parents take care of the younger children. She adored each and every one of them. Mom, in her teenage years, was crowned Carnival Queen in Carman. Her life was what she made it. From a very young age she knew it was John who she would spend her life with. She married Rodmond John Ager on October 13, 1956 and spent 49 and one half years together. After she married Dad, Mom spent her first years working at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital helping Polio patients and felt, that at the end of the day, she had helped someone. Her biggest passions though were cooking and growing flowers. She worked in many restaurants, and to this day, people will always talk about her butter tarts. She would always make more at Christmas so that she could share them with the seniors across the street from where they lived in Ashern. Mom worked with Dad to grow the most beautiful flower gardens. Mom also worked at a fibreglass company in Stonewall. Mom and Dad also cared for foster children and also had adopted a couple of them. She lived in Roseisle, Carman, Winnipeg and Stonewall where she and Dad built the house of their dreams. When Dad retired, they moved to Ashern to be closer to their cabin at Silver Bay where the both of them spent most of their summers. Mom loved chicken hunting in the fall with Dad along with fishing and camping. The biggest joy of her life was being beside Dad, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very proud of each and every one of them. After the passing of Dad, Mom had the fortunate pleasure of having Loretta and her family to live with. She was able to watch these children grow every day and listen to all the exciting stories that they had to tell her. A celebration of life and a come-and-go tea will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at the Ashern Legion Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. An interment will be held at a later date in the Roseisle Cemetery. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Personal Care Home and hospital in Ashern for the unbelievable and extraordinary care they gave our Mom and the compassion they showed to both our Mom and family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ashern Personal Care Home, PO Box 110, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0 or to the Rodmond Huska Memorial Award Fund, The Winnipeg Foundation, 1350 One Lombard Place, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0X3.
