LOIS WILDA SMITH On July 2, 2010 Lois passed away peacefully at Concordia Place. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Wilda, sister Pauline, nephews Carl (Lorena) and John Marshall. Nana will be greatly missed by Laurie (Alan Bouchard), Lea, Logan and their parents, Susan and Ron Grzenda. Lois was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on September 28, 1911, the eldest of seven children born to Carl and Eva Nelson. With her parents, she moved to Saskatchewan as a young child. In 1933, she married the love of her life, John Wesley. With Wes and Wilda, she moved to Winnipeg in 1942, and resided in East Kildonan. Wes died suddenly in 1959. Lois was employed in the office of Sterling Engine Works Ltd. for 20 years until her retirement in 1979. She made so many good friends as a result of this association. Lois was a member of John Black Memorial Church for over 60 years, and at one time very active in church activities. She also loved to travel and did so extensively with her friend Helen Gray as well as with her daughter Wilda. Lois was loved by her family and friends. She was strong in her faith. She enjoyed gardening, baking and knitting for Wilda's kids . She also appreciated being able to share the lives of Laurie, Lea and Logan. Many thanks to the staff of Concordia Place, for their care and support, both to Lois and Wilda. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Thomson Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, R3L 0K6, or to a charity of your choice.
