CLAIRE BERNICE TOEWS August 30, 1944 - July 1, 2010 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother and loving Wife after a courageous battle with cancer. Claire was born in Fort William, ON to Helena and Cyril Williams. She was raised and educated in Toronto. After completing her high school education she worked for Bell Telephone as a service rep for a number of years followed with several other jobs. In 1968 she moved to Winnipeg where she worked for National Grain as secretary to the president for a number years. She then went to work for D.A. Dick and Associates Sun Life Insurance for three years. Claire and Lawrence met in November 1976 and married on September 30, 1977. Together we raised five children: Curtis, Kathy, Bradley, Stephen and Carolyn. She was predeceased by her stepson Curtis in June 2007. From 1977 to 1985 Claire was a stay-at-home Mom, always being actively involved in education, and having a sincere concern for the family and others education. During the 1980s she published a newsletter Parents Network which had up to 800 people on her monthly mailing list. In 1998 Claire joined the Frontier Centre for Public Policy. She was always working hard on Education and other important public policy interests. Her last position was assistant to the President. Her career was cut short on March 15 when she discovered that she had a vision problem and it was diagnosed to be a cancerous tumour. After many tests she discovered that the cancer had spread throughout her entire body. Her faith in Christ kept her strong to the end and went to be with the Lord and Saviour on July 1, 2010. The family would like to express their gratitude to the entire staff at CancerCare Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON 1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. In keeping with Claire's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, July 8 at 11:00 a.m. in the Evangel Chapel, 1073 St. Mary's Road with Dr. Aldwin Ragoonath officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald St. 253-5086
