ALLISON RICKEY (BIRD) As of Saturday July 3, 2010, at age 94 our Mom is now at peace with the Lord she loved throughout her life. After a courageous battle, Mom passed away with loving family members at her side. She was predeceased by her husband Paul and her parents James and Janet Bird as well as many family members and friends. Allison leaves to mourn her passing, but celebrate her life, sons Don (Bev) and Russ (Mary) and grandchildren Paul (Marcia), Laura Thiessen (Chuck), Jeff, Scott (Corinna), Matthew, Michael as well as her five great-grandchildren Cole, Jayden, Ava, Savannah and Autumn. She leaves as well nephew Dan (Ruth) and Martin along with numerous other nephews and nieces. Mom graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1937 and began her teaching career in rural Manitoba. It was here she first met Dad. They were married in 1944 and settled in Winnipeg. Mom left teaching to work for Bristol Aerospace for several years ultimately joining the City of Winnipeg as a librarian where she worked until her retirement. Mom was one of the founding members of Norwood United Church (St. Mary's Road United) where she has been a life long member. Mom dedicated herself to her two sons providing security, stability and fun times. In retirement Mom devoted her time to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well Mom had many interests from gardening, sing alongs with the family and trips to the beach at Gimli and in later years took up painting. The family would like to thank the dedicated and caring staff and volunteers at Riverview Health Centre including Pat Yamada and the staff of CD-4 where Mom resided after Dad's passing. In addition, we would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Victoria Hospital for their care and compassion in Mom's final days. We will love you and miss you always until we meet again. Love Your Family A memorial service to celebrate Mom's life will be held in the chapel at Riverview Health Centre on Friday, July 9, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. In keeping with Mom's wishes cremation has taken place and a private family interment has been held at Brookside Cemetery.
