NORMA ETOLA ROLFE (nee MOODIE) December 26, 1921 - July 4, 2010 It is with deep sadness that we express the tranquil passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and sister, Norma Rolfe on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at the age of 88. Norma was predeceased by her husband Kenneth, her parents Albert and Norah Moodie, her sisters, Hazel, Dawn and Beatrice (Betty) and her granddaughter Donna. She leaves to mourn her sons Wayne (Doris), Lee (George) of Calgary, AB, and Dennis (Dorothy) of Fort Smith, NWT; grandson Ryan (Joan); brother Gordon (Gerry); step-grandchildren, Cindy, Scott and Darrel, as well as many nieces and nephews. Although Norma grew up in Winnipeg's North End, for over 50 years she lived in St. James in a house on Winchester Street, a place she loved with its wonderful picturesque view of the Assiniboine Golf Course outside the kitchen window, a little piece of quiet solitude in the middle of a busy city. And all those years on Winchester, Norma was a pushover for any child selling whatever door-to-door fundraiser, everything from cookies to light bulbs. A common refrain was: Go to Mrs. Rolfe's, she buys everything. Without doubt, her favourite season of the year was Christmas. The moment Halloween was over, out came the Christmas decorations filling every available space in the living room. Wrapping presents began in early December, each carefully and lovingly taped and finished with the perfect bow or flourish, each becoming a little work of art. For many years Norma and Ken were members of the Friday night St. James Bowling League where they made many lifelong friends. The weekly Happy Hour hosted by each member of their little group before bowling was a highlight of the week. Over the years Norma and Ken attended numerous dances and banquets, especially at the Assiniboine Golf Course. If anyone had tickets for any dinner and dance, Norma and Ken were always game. Although not one for hobbies, she enjoyed collecting toothpick holders, and adding to her cherished Royal Doulton collection, some pieces dating back to the mid 1950s. As well, she was an avid reader, particularly of murder mysteries and enjoyed jumble word puzzles. As for travel, the annual trip to Vancouver to visit her beloved sister Betty and her family was a highlight of the year. Later in life, she and Ken made numerous trips with close friends to Palm Springs, Puerto Vallarta and numerous trips to Hawaii. Finally, the family extends a warm and special thank you to the third floor hospital staff of Grace Hospital for making her final weeks, battling numerous infections, as comfortable as possible. Cremation has taken place. In accordance with Norma's wishes there will be no service. Should you wish, please make a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society in our mother's name. She would like that.
