Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER SOSIAK July 16, 1924 - July 8, 2010 Peter passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at the age of 85. Peter is now reunited with the love of his life Lucille. Peter was born in South Transcona in 1924 and attended elementary and high school there. He was an avid sports participant and played junior hockey for the St. James Canadians from 1942 - 1943. In 1941 he apprenticed for the CNR in the Transcona Shops. He was a Carmen his entire career until his retirement at the age of 57. In 1943 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy. He served our country until 1946. Peter married Lucille Bourgouin on May 25, 1946, and raised two children Ron and Lorraine. Since 1954 Peter, Lucille, family and friends have enjoyed their cottage at Rice Lake, Ontario. It has always been Dad's special place. Dad spent 22 years of his life volunteering at the East End Community Club. He was involved with the building of the arena, coaching hockey, and organizing banquets and socials. He was a volunteer fire fighter from 1952 - 1982. In 1968 he received the Transcona Golden Citizen Award, which later prompted the naming of a street after him. Dad will be lovingly remembered by Ron and wife Rhonda, their children Mia (Glen), Robynn (Shameer), Jason (Jen), and Krysta; Lorraine and her husband Mark, their children Chris (Rachelle), Angie, Marla (Norm), Lori (Chris), and Bobby. Great-grandpa will be always be looking over Jayla, Skye, Zachary, Alexis, Teigan and Leeland. A special thanks is extended to the staff at the Maples Personal Care Home for their loving and outstanding care of Dad. Thanks to all those who took time from their busy schedule to stop and visit Dad. Funeral service will be held Monday. July 12, 2010, 11:00 a.m., at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St.
