Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY JOHANN (Formerly SOOD) (nee BORSBOOM) Peacefully in her sleep, after saying good-bye to her children and family, Mary passed away at the age of 78 years young in the early morning of June 28, 2010 at the Victoria General Hospital. The daughter of Kathleen (Overwater) and William Borsboom, Mary was born on February 13, 1932, in Winnipeg, MB. She is survived by her daughter, Mona-Lynne Ayotte, two sons, Doug Sood (Sheryl) and Dale Sood (Jessica), her grandchildren, Samantha Howden, Jazmin, Garret and Tiffany Sood, her ex-husband, Max Sood, her siblings, John Borsboom (Thea), Bill Borsboom (Diane), Gertrude Lutz (Clarence), Teresa Hogue (Raymond), Shirley Borsboom (Ed), Anne Van Gorp (Walter), Liz Crane (Mike), Barbara Fenwick (George), and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers George and Ed, and sisters Kathy Dufault and Ida Pelletier. A talented seamstress, distant traveller, lover of summer flowers and family gatherings, accomplished musician, avid curler and golfer, Mary will truly be missed by her friends and family. At the age of 15, she left home to work at Sportswear Specialties Sewing Factory, whereby, her journey took her to meet lifelong friends Nellie Allard, Sally Percheson and Julie Haasbeek. In the early 70s, Mary started Village Sportswear where they made club jackets well into the middle 90s. Over the last number of years, Mary lived a fiercely independent life and when asked what she did with her time, she would state: I'm a writer! Although she had exquisite penmanship, Mary challenged herself by learning to use a computer. She read over 400 books, designed numerous historical costumes, travelled to see her sons, taught her granddaughter Sam to sew and play country music, and made the best perogies ever! We are thankful to Kim, Diego (Cowboy) and Ken, her apartment friends, who cared for her like family. A celebration of Mary's life will take place on Saturday, July 17, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Adolphe Catholic Church, 392 Main Street, St. Adolphe, MB with Father Michaud officiating. Mary will be laid to rest at the Belgium Sacred Heart Cemetery, Plinquet Rd. with her parents and brother George in a private family ceremony. Cremation has already taken place. Rock Fontaine Funeral Director is in charge of funeral arrangements, 204-223-2576.

I remember as a child Mary used to bring me to her home and we would always have such a good time. She was involved in a program with a school I was in that took children in and gave them a mentor. Mary was my mentor and I grew to love her very much. I will miss her dearly. My condolences to her family. She was an amazing person. - Posted by: Rachel () on: Apr 06, 2013
